Starting in September 2017 we have designed and implemented a weekly supplementary curriculum at a school in South London. The aim of this project is to introduce students to academic discussions that they otherwise would find difficult to access. As an outcome of this project we produced our Consented Youth magazine in conjunction with the young people involved in the project.
In 2017-18 we expanded our project to work across two schools, primarily with sixth formers. This included beginning a long term partnership in Hackney.
We are now in the third year of this project and continue to develop and improve our curriculum titled "Race, Racism & Society" in South London. Alongside this we have developed a curriculum teaching Black British Civil Rights in Hackney.
We have established increasing academic links, bringing in academics from a range of leading universities to deliver sessions to young people. Topics explored include; Homonationalism, Orientalism, Queer History, Climate Change.
In collaboration with Race in Britain we co-organize an annual summer school relating to issues of race and racism. In 2018 this was hosted at SOAS university, whilst in 2019 we worked with BSix College in Hackney. We hope to continue to grow and develop this annual summer school which is free to attend and aimed at young people and educational practitioners.
